Fugue’s 2021 Annual Writing Contest is Open

Fugue is excited to announce the opening of our 2021 Annual Writing Contest! This year’s judges are Leila Chatti (poetry) and Eloghosa Osunde (prose).

Contest winners in both categories will receive $1,000 prizes and publication in our fall 2021 print issue. Submissions fees are $15 and multiple submissions are allowed. Our prose category is open to both nonfiction and fiction submissions, which will be judged together.

Leila Chatti is a Tunisian-American poet and author of Deluge (Copper Canyon Press, 2020) and the chapbooks Ebb (Akashic Books, 2018) and Tunsiya/Amrikiya, the 2017 Editors' Selection from Bull City Press. Her honors include a Pushcart Prize, grants from the Barbara Deming Memorial Fund and the Helene Wurlitzer Foundation, and fellowships from the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, the Wisconsin Institute for Creative Writing, and Cleveland State University, where she was the inaugural Anisfield-Wolf Fellow in Publishing and Writing. She currently teaches at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she is the Mendota Lecturer in Poetry. Her poems appear in The New York Times Magazine, POETRY, Ploughshares, Tin House, American Poetry Review, and elsewhere.


Eloghosa Osunde is a writer and multidisciplinary artist whose work often explores mental health, sexuality and the psychology of identity and interpersonal intimacies. An alumna of the Farafina Creative Writing Workshop (2015), the Caine Prize Workshop (2018) and the filmmaking and screenwriting programs at New York Film Academy, Eloghosa's writing has since been published by multiple publications including Paris Review, Guernica, Longreads, Catapult & Berlin Quarterly. Eloghosa's visual art has appeared in Vogue, The New York Times and Paper Magazine. She is a 2019 Lambda Literary Fellow and a 2020 MacDowell Colony Fellow. Eloghosa was awarded a 2017 Miles Morland Scholarship to write her debut work of fiction. She is represented by the Wylie Agency and the author of VAGABONDS! which will be published in 2022 by Riverhead Books.
