2014 Annual Writing Contest Open for Submissions

Our Annual Poetry and Prose Contest is currently open for submissions! We have some heavy hitters as judges this year, so make sure you send us your fiction, nonfiction, and poetry starting January 1. The contest runs until April 1 and first prize for poetry and prose receive $1,000 each. As always, all entries will be considered for publication in our summer/fall issue.

Our poetry judge, Cate Marvin, is a widely published and prize-winning poet. Marvin’s first book, World’s Tallest Disaster, was chosen by Robert Pinksy for the 2000 Kathryn A. Morton Prize and published by Sarabande Books in 2001. In 2002, she received the Kate Tufts Discovery Prize. She co-edited with poet Michael Dumanis the anthology, Legitimate Dangers: American Poets of the New Century. She teaches poetry writing in Lesley University's Low-Residency M.F.A. Program and Columbia University's MFA Program. Her third book of poems, Oracle, is forthcoming from W.W. Norton & Co. in 2015.


Kevin Canty is our judge of prose this year and the author of three collections of short stories (Where the Money WentHoneymoon, and A Stranger In This World) and four novels (EverythingNine Below ZeroInto the Great Wide Open, and Winslow in Love). Canty has won a Pacific Northwest Book Award, and three of his books have been named as “Notable Books” by the New York Times Book Review.
